iN PERSON THERAPY IN AUSTIN AND ONLINE THERAPY ACROSS TEXAS FOR PARENTS RAISING
CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES and high support needs

Parent holding child, representing compassionate support for parents of children with disabilities in Austin, TX

For the parts of you that have been

holding on to so much

.

You’ve been carrying so much for so long, that you’re not sure what it would even feel like to have space for you again.

Maybe this feels familiar...

You are showing up every day for your child. Managing appointments, advocating, making decisions, and holding more than most people can see. On the outside, it may look like you’re coping and getting through it, but inside you feel exhausted, stretched thin, or like you’re running on empty. You might notice that there is very little space left for you, or that you’ve slowly lost touch with parts of yourself in the midst of caring for everyone else.

What you’re experiencing makes sense. When so much of your energy goes toward caring for others and keeping things moving, it’s easy for your own needs and sense of self to move into the background.

When there is space to

reconnect with yourself,

new ways of being can start to open up.

Parent caring for child with special needs, finding balance and guidance through counseling in Austin

Supporting you in staying connected to yourself while caring for your child.

In our work together, there is space to pause and really see what your experience has been like, understanding it through a lens of curiosity rather than judgment, and making sense of the ways you’ve learned to cope and keep going. As we create space to understand your experience, you may begin to notice the ways you’ve learned to carry so much in caregiving, relationships, and daily life, ways that once helped you keep going but may now feel heavy or limiting.

You know you’ve been doing everything you can because you love your family. But you may also be realizing that, somewhere along the way, you’ve lost connection with yourself. You want life to feel less overwhelming, less lonely, and more connected to yourself, your relationships, and the life you’re working so hard to build.

From there, we begin to gently work with what’s been happening beneath the surface, creating space for new awareness and new possibilities to emerge. Over time, this can support you in feeling more grounded in yourself, more present in your relationships, and more able to live in a way that feels aligned with who you are becoming.

What we’ll work on

Here’s what we’ll do together:

  • Holding space for the emotional weight and ongoing stress that comes with caregiving.

  • Understanding patterns that have developed from constantly having to cope, manage, and push through.

  • Gently noticing how stress and responsibility show up in your body, emotions, and relationships.

  • Supporting you in feeling more grounded and present with yourself again.

  • Creating space for your needs, voice, and identity alongside your role as a parent or caregiver.

  • Beginning to explore new ways of responding that feel more aligned, intentional, and supportive of your wellbeing

FAQS

Questions You May Have

What can therapy help with for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities?

Therapy can provide support for the emotional, relational, and day-to-day impact of raising a child with disabilities or medically complex needs. Many parents come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stretched thin, or disconnected from themselves and their relationships. Together, we create space to gently explore what you’ve been carrying, how you’ve been coping, and what patterns may have developed over time. Because so much energy goes into caring for your child and managing daily demands, it becomes especially important that there is also space for you—to take care of yourself in a way that supports your wellbeing, not just your role as a parent. From there, therapy can help open up more space for you to feel grounded, supported, and more connected to yourself and the people in your life.

Yes. I work with couples who are navigating the impact of raising a child with disabilities or medically complex needs. Many couples find that the ongoing stress, exhaustion, and responsibility can slowly shift how they connect—leading to moments of distance, misunderstanding, or feeling like you are on different pages, even when there is still deep care and love underneath.

In our work together, we create space to gently notice the patterns that happen between you when things feel tense or overwhelming, what often gets activated, how each of you protects yourselves, and where you may be missing each other emotionally. From there, we begin to rebuild emotional safety, understanding, and connection, so you can feel more like a team again in the midst of everything you are holding.

Sessions are collaborative, compassionate, and guided by curiosity. Together, we explore what is happening beneath the surface of your thoughts, emotions, and relationships, while building a deeper understanding of the patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. As awareness grows, new possibilities for connection, healing, and change begin to emerge. For couples, we also focus on strengthening emotional connection, understanding, and teamwork within the relationship.
