IN PERSON IN AUSTIN AND ONLINE ACROSS TEXAS THERAPY FOR People pleasing and boundaries

Perhaps this feels familiar...

You are the person everyone relies on. The one who says yes, figures it out, and makes sure everyone else is okay. From the outside, you seem capable and put together, but inside, you're exhausted from carrying so much.

You’ve become so used to anticipating what others need that it can feel difficult to slow down and recognize what you need. You may find yourself replaying conversations, worrying about how others perceive you, or feeling guilty when you try to prioritize yourself. Even when you know you need a break, setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable or even selfish.

Over time, adapting to the needs of others can make it harder to stay connected to your own needs, wants, and sense of who you are. Together, we can begin to understand where these ways of relating came from and create space for you to feel more grounded, confident, and connected to yourself.

You can care deeply for others,

without losing yourself

.

You can begin honoring your needs without the guilt that has held you back

.

We’ll explore where these patterns came from and why they have made sense for you up until this point, approaching them with curiosity and compassion.

Together, we’ll begin building awareness around the ways you’ve learned to respond, relate, and protect yourself, especially in the moments when you feel responsible for others, hold back your needs, or lose touch with what feels true for you. As you begin to recognize these patterns with greater understanding, you can create more space between the feeling and the reaction, allowing for more choice in how you respond.

Over time, this awareness can help you honor your needs, trust your voice, and move through life with more confidence, flexibility, and less guilt.

Therapy for people pleasing and boundary work is available in-person at our Austin, Texas office as well as virtually for clients across Texas.

What we’ll work on

Here’s what we’ll do together:

  • Understanding the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and where they may have come from.

  • Exploring the ways you’ve learned to adapt, protect yourself, and prioritize others’ needs.
  • Develop a deeper sense of trust in yourself and your experiences.

  • Developing healthier boundaries while maintaining meaningful relationships.

  • Moving from automatic reactions toward responses that feel more intentional and aligned with who you are.

  • Creating a stronger sense of self so you can show up in relationships without losing yourself.

FAQS

Questions You May Be Asking About People Pleasing & Boundaries

Can therapy help me understand why I put others’ needs before my own?

Yes. Therapy can help you understand why you feel responsible for keeping others happy, why setting boundaries may feel uncomfortable, and what makes it difficult to prioritize your own needs. Together, we can explore the experiences that shaped these patterns and help you develop more confidence, self-trust, and freedom in how you respond to yourself and others.

The first session is a chance to get to know you, understand what brings you to therapy, and learn more about what you’re hoping to change. We’ll begin exploring the patterns you’ve noticed and what you would like support with moving forward.

Understanding your past can be an important part of therapy, but you do not have to share anything before you are ready. We’ll focus on what feels helpful and meaningful for you while creating a pace that feels comfortable.

No. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or unsure of what needs to change. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear understanding of what is happening before you begin. Part of the process is creating space to slow down, understand yourself more deeply, and begin noticing the thoughts, feelings, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck. From there, we can explore what you truly need and what changes would help you feel more grounded, confident, and aligned with who you are.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, experiences, and what you would like to explore. Some people come to therapy to work through a specific challenge, such as setting boundaries or learning to speak up for their needs, while others want to better understand deeper patterns that have been present for years. Therapy is a process of building awareness, creating new choices, and making changes that feel meaningful and sustainable over time.
